The origin of chainsaw art started in 1952 when Ray Murphy discovered doing real chainsaw art with only a chainsaw. Ray started by sawing names and messages to his brother with his father's chainsaw. As Ray progressed over the years he invented many new near impossible feats to do with chainsaws as his only tools. Ray has no desire to be come a carver. Chainsaw carving started in 1960 by a news reporter calling it "chainsaw carving". A wood carver using a chainsaw as a pre-carve tool and then carving with carving tools and sanders. The end result was a sanded wood carving; not real chainsaw art using only chainsaws. Some power-tool carvers don't even use a chainsaw but call it chainsaw carving. Ray plans on continuing doing real chainsaw art and inventing new things that have never been done with a chainsaw. These will be show-cased at his stage show during the summer months in Hancock Maine 7 PM every evening. Ray's show is the only show like it in the world and the only place you may see these near-impossible feats happen.
